The 4K camera footage is sharp, AI bird ID works flawlessly, and solar power eliminates battery hassle. I get instant phone alerts every time a bird visits, and the live stream lets me watch wildlife from anywhere. Sturdy weatherproof build keeps seed dry, setup is simple, and it’s such a unique gift for birdwatchers. Minor Wi-Fi lag in weak signal areas, but totally worth it for endless backyard bird viewing fun!
Original review:
When it works, it’s an amazing tool for all aspiring ornithologists. Less than two months since this purchase, however, and the solar panel does nothing at all. The physical battery lasts for about 8 hours, then takes hours to charge back up for the next day. Very frustrating given the cost.
There's a LOT we love about this solar powered camera bird feeder. The setup and installation is very straightforward. The images are clear, and the solar panel keeps the battery charged - unless you have a spell of cloudy or rainy weather. For reference, I've had my feeder up for a month, and only had to charge the battery once, during a one week spell of lousy weather. Filling the feeder is very easy.
The best thing about the feeder is the outstanding customer service. After I registered my account, Kiwibit reached out to me personally by email to check in. . . there was no impersonal customer satisfaction survey. I gave them some honest feedback about some minor issues, and they followed up right away with some very helpful tips.
Here are some key takeaways:
I chose the feeder thst has a separate solar panel vs the integrated panel, which I like. I've got the feeder facing north, away from the sun, and the panel facing south.
I've had good luck with deterring squirrels with no-mess seed coated in hot stuff. I recommend the no mess seed, because the seed hopper is small, and you'll need to refill less often. I'm also going to add a squirrel baffle.
The AI does a good job with most birds, but consistently misidentifies some (in my case, female Red-winged Blackbirds) Customer support recommended that I send feedback when that happens (a quick click in the app), and that has helped a lot.
I had no idea how many birds were visiting my backyard feeder - in my case, there are hundreds per day. I did remove my other feeder when I installed this one.
All in all, I've thoroughly enjoyed this feeder, and I'm honestly blown away by the amazing customer care. Highly recommend!
